Professional networking… for some it’s fun, and for many, well… not so much
I used to dread networking events - with so many people to talk to, who do I choose and how do I manage to get to “all” the “right” people during the course of the event?!
Professional networking can feel outside our comfort zone
The best piece of advice I ever received about networking was – ‘Remember Vicki, people do business with people they like. Networking is an opportunity for people to meet each other, and if they discover they like each other, they’ll find a way to do business together.’
I appreciate that different businesses have different needs, but for me, this advice really resonated with my personal values, reminding me that it is the relationships that are first and foremost. The reminder has enabled me to be a lot more relaxed with my approach and accordingly be a better version of myself in that networking moment.
